Today was the first day of my MBA...at MIT Sloan. I am so utterly buzzed to be here, I feel like the luckiest girl in the world! It's called Innovation and Global Leadership, there's 101 of us on the course, from 28 different countries. There are 21 women and 80 men, the average age is 37.5 yrs old, it is a 12 month program...and it is so exciting!!
This morning we went around the class and everyone spoke for a minute or two about themselves...that was incredible! Such great people- from doctors to serial entrepreneurs (on their 6th start-up) to senior managers of global tech firms to US Coast Guards to marketing managers of Japanese beer companies and people lined up to take over their family businesses in Turkey...from Japan to Brazil via Siberia, Oceania, Nigeria and Spain! It is completely overwhelming. Everyone seems to have a great sense of humour and are all here to give it there all..to exceed their comfort zones and to change in many ways...most come with partners and kids in tow! So their whole families' committment is awesome!

We were told that our challenge is: to change the world...no one's ever told me that before..MIT is a totally incredible place, there are so many brilliant people here with great ideas and skills, and so many doing amazing things for social change!
There are many exciting things to look forward to- like Convocation in September where Sloan alumni come together every three years to discuss (this year) Sustainable Business; Sloan Innovation Period in October with loads of innovation-related events....loads of intriguing-sounding electives such as 'Application of Technology in Energy and the Environment' and Global Entrepreneurship Lab for Emerging Markets..plus many, many social events and trips to NYC, California and a international trip to meet business leaders (destination tbc).
As a Legatum Fellow (http://legatum.mit.edu) I am expected to change the world by setting up a bottom-up company in the developing world (absolutely no restrictions on for-profit, country or type of business) and they will help with investors and business planning...how incredible is that?!
I know now that this year is going to be the best of my life and I want to try and record it on this blog..so do come along for the ride!
Boston too is amazing...pretty compact, so incredibly friendly and beautiful. MIT is right on the Charles River in Cambridge, with Boston on the other side. I think it also helps that it's 27 degrees C and rising!
I ended my 1st day by lying on the grass in front of the Chapel and Sport Centre laughing at 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' and marvelling at American student life.
